Wet Sets vs. Angel Lashes: What's the Difference?

When it comes to lash artistry, subtle technique differences can completely transform the final look. Two of the most requested (and often confused) styles right now are wet sets and angel lashes.

Although they may seem similar at first glance, they create very different finishes, one bold and glossy, the other soft and airy. Let’s break them down.

Let’s Talk Wet Sets

A wet set is designed to mimic the look of lashes when they’re freshly coated in mascara,  slightly clumped, glossy, and defined. This style is perfect for clients who love a darker lash line with a textured, edgy finish.

Key Characteristics:

  • Closed, narrow fans
  • Optional spikes for added texture
  • A darker, more defined lash line
  • Glossy, slightly “clumped” look intentionally styled

This set is all about controlled texture. The spikes and narrow fans work together to create that signature “just-applied mascara” effect.

Top Tips for Creating a Wet Set:

1. Choose the Correct Lash Diameter. Precision is everything with this style:

  • 0.05 or 0.03 → ideal for spikes
  • 0.07 → best for narrow fans

2. Work in Layers. Layering is key to achieving depth and structure. Use the tape-up method to clearly isolate each layer and improve placement accuracy.

3. Mix Curls for Dimension. Blending curls adds movement and prevents the set from looking flat or heavy.

4. Combine Diameters for Texture. Using a mix of diameters enhances the contrast between spikes and fans, helping you achieve that perfectly textured wet look.

🕊️ Let’s Talk Angel Lashes

Angel lashes are the complete opposite of a wet set. They’re soft, delicate, and effortlessly wispy, perfect for clients who want a natural enhancement without density or drama.

Key Characteristics:

  • Light, narrow fans
  • Optional very subtle spikes
  • A soft, less dense lash line
  • Fluttery, feathery finish

The goal here isn’t to define it, it’s lightness and movement.

Top Tips for Creating Angel Lashes:

1. Choose the Right Diameter. Stick to finer lashes for that airy finish:

  • 0.05 or 0.03
  • Using both can enhance a wispy effect

2. Control Your Pick-Up

  • Pick up only 3 - 4 lashes at a time
  • Avoid fanning - keep the fan narrow and closed

3. Layer for a Wispy Effect. Work in layers and use the tape-up method to maintain consistency and separation throughout the set.

4. Mix Curls for Soft Dimension. Subtle curl variation adds depth without compromising the look's softness.

5. Stay Consistent. Consistency is everything with angel lashes. Picking up too many lashes will quickly turn this into a volume set, losing that signature airy finish.

Both styles require precision, but the intent behind them is completely different:

  • Wet sets → bold, glossy, textured, defined
  • Angel lashes → soft, light, wispy, natural

Mastering both allows you to fully customise your work to suit each client’s desired look,  whether they want something striking or effortlessly subtle.
